· Administration – Allan Zink o Continuing discussion of last day of school. The 12th and 13th will be half days. If absences are high, it may jeopardize attendance goal, especially since 450 kids (almost 1/3) were absent on Take Your Child to Work Day. The need for the extra days is related to number of hours in school. o Baltimore County Chamber of Commerce Awards Dinner: Sandy McGuire won the award for Guidance Counselor for all of her efforts with the kids. o PHMS was the top school raising funds (almost $17,000) for the Children’s Cancer Foundation. On May 22nd, breakfast will be held at the school for the county’s top student fundraisers. Dr. Hairston will attend. About 200 students and teachers will attend, 120 of them will be PHMS students. o Internet Safety seminar will be held for the 8th grade students. Joyce Caldwell (Media teacher) in conjunction with I-Safe has been working on this. Unfortunately, the USAG will not be attending. This is a multi-media presentation with speakers and topics will include the danger of on-line predators. Question about information sent home to parents to continue discussion. Mr. Zink was not aware, but will look into it for next year. o Issue brought up by Jeanne Biemer about the scheduling of 8th grade concert the night before the Algebra I HSA. Mr. Zink was not aware of this. Said the concert dates were set a year in advance, but they did not get HSA dates until March. Said it was too late to change it now, but would watch it more closely next year. o Issue brought up by Margie Burgess regarding MSA testing in meeting room. One 8th grade team of about 90 students tested in meeting room. Other parents complained. Despite the assurance that it “works” and his visit to the meeting room during testing showed a good environment, he will revisit the issue next year and make other classroom arrangements. o Diane Gaither reminded everyone of the concert series at Hersheypark on June 3 for PHMS students. o No update on Katie Yeskis benefit concert o Enrollment for next year projected to decrease from about 1520 to 1480, will probably level off around 1400 to 1450. o Renovations are set to begin in November, 2006. It is a 2 year project. There will be 4 trailers next year, situated in the parking lot near the gym entrance. Parking spaces will be lost, but it’s the best and safest traffic flow for students. The gym, cafeteria and music rooms will be renovated in the summer to minimize disruption. Gym will get at least a new floor. Rec will be displaced during major renovations (probably next summer) although rec activities were already cancelled for this summer since renovations were supposed to start earlier.
